Description

A 100% authentic, uncleaned World War II German Luftwaffe 2nd Model Officer’s Dress Dagger (Fliegerdolch). Manufactured by the highly regarded firm of F.W. Höller, Solingen, this piece features an exceptional, original celluloid grip and excellent mid-to-late war zinc alloy hilt components. Note that the original metal pebbled scabbard is missing and has been replaced with a post-war commercial leather sheath marked made in Germany.

Blade & Maker Mark: The high-carbon steel blade remains in great collectible condition, preserving its original factory tip and a prominent center ridge. The reverse ricasso is cleanly and deeply struck with the textbook F.W. Höller Solingen commercial-style double oval trademark enclosing their signature thermometer logo. The blade exhibits minor authentic graying, age spots, light scratches, and fine runner lines from historical use, entirely free of modern chrome or stainless-steel plating.

Hilt & Crossguard Assembly: The hilt displays highly crisp, mid-war casting details. The obverse features an attacking Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika in its talons, while the reverse face displays a pristine, dense pebbled backing. The top flat shoulders of the guard arms are beautifully embellished with deeply defined oak leaf and acorn clusters. The interior channel reveals untouched, fine-grained historical dust and oxidation, confirming authentic age.

Grip & Pommel Configuration: The ribbed handle features an eye-catching off-white/cream celluloid grip over a plaster-filled core, showing deep, warm natural color transitions from decades of aging. The grip is securely wrapped with its original, tight double-twisted wire tucked cleanly into the recessed grooves, showing minor natural wire shifting indicative of 80+ years of age. The bulbous aluminum/alloy pommel screws tightly onto the tang and features a mobile standing swastika surrounded by sharp, vertical oak leaves and acorns.

Sheath (Post-War): The dagger is housed in a mismatched, stitched dark leather sheath with a metal throat collar. The reverse side of the leather is stamped “MADE IN GERMANY” in English typography. This is a post-war commercial export or souvenir hunting/utility knife sheath that was paired with the dagger at a later date to protect the blade. It holds no historical connection to the Luftwaffe dagger.
