Description

Item Description: An excellent, 100% authentic, untouched World War 2 German Luftwaffe Officer’s Sword (Fliegerschwert). This piece represents a classic “transition era” production model, beautifully combining a highly desirable, early-to-mid-war premium blade with the lightweight aluminum and zinc alloy fittings characteristic of later-stage wartime manufacturing.

Blade & Maker Mark: The high-carbon steel blade remains uncleaned and in good collectible condition, preserving strong traces of its original factory vertical cross-graining. The ricasso features the crisp, deeply etched trademark of Original Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, depicting a squirrel holding a downward-pointing sword (utilized ca. 1935-1941). The blade surface shows honest, historical carbon patina and light localized black micro-pitting from age, which serves as a textbook guarantee of authenticity. The tip of the blade is ever so slightly rounded over/blunted for lack of better terms see the photos.

Hilt & Guard: The downward-curved aluminum crossguard simulates stylized bird wings, featuring crisp, deeply defined, hand-finished three-tiered feather detailing. The circular pommel and the center crossguard medallions display the iconic Luftwaffe “sunwheel” swastika configuration, featuring distinct flat-topped lines with an appropriately stippled background. Traces of the original gold-colored wash or factory lacquer remain safely nestled inside the recesses, creating a beautiful two-tone patina.

Grip Configuration: The contoured wood grip core is wrapped in its original, tight blue-gray Moroccan leather, showing a natural fine grain and authentic surface wear from period handling. The grip retains its tight, original double-twisted aluminum wire wrap, which is nestled perfectly within the carved grooves. There is some minor breaks in the leather as shown in the photos.

Scabbard & Hardware:  The scabbard’s original blue Moroccan leather wrapping has naturally decomposed and completely peeled away. The original factory-polished raw steel core is exposed and exhibits slight black carbon pitting in some spots. The top throat (locket) and bottom chape are matching, plated iron/zinc base components. Both fittings exhibit a uniform, un-messed-with dark gray oxidation and micro-pitting where the original bright plating naturally wore away over the decades.
