The Patronenkasten 36 (often abbreviated as Patrhk. 36) was a standard steel ammunition box used by the German Wehrmacht during World War II.
Purpose: Designed primarily to hold a 150-round continuous ammunition belt for the MG 34 and MG 42 machine guns. It was primarily utilized in armored fighting vehicles (like tanks and half-tracks), fortified bunkers, and sometimes on anti-aircraft twin mounts.
Design Features: It was constructed of stamped sheet steel, featured an internal carrying handle, and had a hinged lid with a locking latch.
Manufacturer: HASAG stands for Hugo Schneider AG, a major metal goods and lighting manufacturer based in Leipzig, Germany. During WWII, they heavily manufactured military equipment, munitions, and field gear for the German military.
Date: 1938 indicates the year the ammunition box was produced, making it a very early, pre-war or early-war production example.
Condition: Retains most of the original paint. Bears a waffen eagle ink stamp. The area near the feed door expeirenced a lot of wear from the belts rubbing as the mg was fired. To fix this they were commonly painted over during the war with tan paint and lauquered, which faded over time like this can exhibits. The areas the paint is missing shows signs of slight surface rust or bare metal. Cleaned and oiled for its protection. Small dents or dings as shown in the photos.
